The Area

Park Resorts Camber Sands on the southern coast, is in one of the sunniest and warmest parts of Britain. It is within easy walking distance of a wonderful beach, and very close to the historical town of Rye.

Rye itself is just four miles away and really worth visiting. Once it was a fortified hilltop town which played an important role in the defense of southern England. Warships are no longer in the harbour but there is the local fishing fleet! St Mary’s church tower (usually open to the public) offers the best viewpoint to show the terracotta roofs of the many timbered houses.

Ancient buildings, cobbled streets and secret passages, were once the home of  smugglers and highwaymen; today many authors, musicians, artists and celebrities have made Rye their home. As a medieval haven, Rye regularly attracts film crews in search of historical settings for period productions. The concentration of living history is packed into this vibrant market town.

Rye Harbour area is special too! The area provides an opportunity to discover wildlife in a mosaic of coastal habitats – which include saline lagoons, gravel pits and reedbeds. Explore the changing coastline, military history or just walk by the sea. The area is one of the most important conservation sites in Britain of special scientific interest and also for the protection of birds. There are five birdwatching hides accessible to wheelchairs.

But Rye and its Harbour area are the tip of an iceberg… there is plenty more!
